Of course I grew up loving animals. I had rabbits, dogs, reptiles and amphibians. Today I am pet-mom to 5 dogs, cats, horses, and other livestock.
As a child, my mother and I would volunteer with our golden retriever, Paige, at a home for battered women and children. When Paige passed away, I started volunteering at my local animal shelter where I counseled families that were surrendering their pets. It was there I learned a lot about animal behavior and evaluation.
When I was 21, I got a job at a dog daycare and boarding facility, Dog Day Getaway in Minnesota. I worked with a team of wonderful people and I owe many of my accomplishments to the owners and dear friends, Nicole Boe & Carey Rice. I would not be here without them.
I left Dog Day Getaway to pursue a career in veterinary medicine and got a job with a general practice veterinary hospital. In 2011 I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Animal Science, pre-veterinary medicine. During my last semester at the UofM, I was very fortunate to have a internship at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. There I worked in the Primate Center with orangutans, gorillas, emperor tamrins, lemurs, spider and saki monkeys. Occasionally I would help out with the lions, tigers and snow leopards. On my last day I got a kiss from a sea lion and got to feed the polar bears! I was so blessed to have that experience, and will cherish the memories forever.
After my internship I started working for BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Minneapolis as a veterinary assistant and client care coordinator. I had previous experience in a general practice veterinary hospital, however, this was a veterinary specialty facility and had sophisticated technology like, endoscopy, ultrasound, MRI and a CT scanner to name a few. After working at BluePearl for over a year, an administrative position became available. I applied to be the Marketing and Outreach Coordinator for the Minnesota region and was offered the position, I humbly accepted.
My position as Marketing and Outreach was exciting in its own way. I was responsible for hosting veterinary events as well as handling media stories within our 2 hospitals. It even landed me on television a couple of times.
After working at BluePearl for two years, my husband brought me to Tampa, Florida to start our lives together. I worked for a general practice veterinary hospital, a non-profit veterinary organization as well running the non-profit veterinary hospital, Vets4Pets, Fewf!
In 2016 I left my full time job and started a business, Rowdy’s on the Run, pet sitting full time in my home or caring for pets in their home. And in 2018, Rowdy’s Pet Resort opened it’s doors. I am committed to staying active in the day to day operations of Rowdy’s. You can often find me behind the desk answering phone calls or working the back with the dogs. I look forward to seeing you!
